Kabale hospital staff watch the UMA 14-day clock with machines already down
A national intern-pay dispute would hit a referral hospital that has been without a working X-ray and with oxygen plant trouble for weeks.

Staff at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital are watching the Uganda Medical Association’s 14-day ultimatum more closely than most. The hospital has already been running with a down X-ray and with oxygen plant problems for about a month. Interns are part of how a teaching-referral site covers nights. If allowances stay unpaid and action begins, Kigezi patients will feel it in the queue, not in a Kampala presser. Families who can afford a private film in town have been doing so. Families who cannot have been waiting. A national dispute on top of broken machines is the scenario health workers here say they cannot absorb. _Joy FM Newsroom, Kabale, 13 August 2026._
