Kabale–Bunyonyi–Kisoro–Mgahinga road still barely moving, finance meeting told

The Kabale–Lake Bunyonyi–Kisoro–Mgahinga road upgrade is far behind schedule. Figures presented this month put physical progress at about 2.13 percent against a contractual target of 37.15 percent. Construction activity is reported to have stopped on 1 June 2026. State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi chaired a review on 7 August and contractors were warned that termination is on the table if performance does not change. About 80 percent of project-affected persons are said to have been compensated. The African Development Bank is among the financiers. For Kigezi, the delay is not an abstract percentage. The same corridor is the one visitors use between Kabale, the Bunyonyi landing sites, Kisoro town and the Mgahinga trailheads. > A tourism road that exists only on paper does not fill lodges or shorten the journey for patients heading to referral care. _Based on Ministry of Finance and national reporting, 7–8 August 2026._
