Kisoro District General Hospital says the number of people receiving care for sickle cell disease has risen from 13 in 2022 to 23, and most of those patients are children under 15. That is still a small clinic list, but it is a heavy one for a border district hospital. Parents in Kisoro, Rubanda and Kabale already know how far a child in crisis has to travel. The newsroom will ask what drugs, blood and counselling the ward actually has on the shelf.
