PAC presses UEDCL over blackouts after the Umeme handover

Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has put Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited on the defensive over blackouts since the Umeme concession ended on 1 April 2025. Committee voices, including Patrick Nsamba, have pointed to more than Shs 500 billion in the conversation, about 77,000 connections, and a shortfall in the region of 100,000 metres. Acting managing director Joselynne Rwakakooko has been answering for the state distributor. Kigezi listeners already know the outage pattern: a storm, a trip, and a long wait. The PAC file is about whether the national operator is replacing Umeme with a working utility or with a longer darkness. _Based on parliamentary coverage, early August 2026._
