School holiday travel from 21 August: 6am to 6pm only, HiAce vans capped at 14

When schools break from 21 August, learners are to travel only between 6am and 6pm. HiAce vans on those runs are capped at 14 passengers. The Prime Minister’s office has put inspectors on the plan. The rule is aimed at the usual holiday pattern: overloaded vans leaving Kampala after dark, arriving in Kabale at dawn with children standing in the aisle. Parents who want a night departure will have to argue with the police, not with the head teacher. Joy FM’s practical note: book a daytime bus early. The 6pm cut-off will fill the last legal vehicles. _Based on the government travel directive, 13 August 2026._
