Ssembabule land officer Emmanuel Champion Kananura has been remanded until 17 August over allegations that about Shs 1 billion was taken from a subsidised land-titling programme. The scheme was supposed to make titles cheaper for ordinary landholders. If the charge sheet is right, the subsidy became a till. Kananura has not been convicted. Remand means the court wants him back next week while the file is completed. Together with the Masaka arrest, the week has put land offices — not only squatters — at the centre of the title scandal. _Based on court reporting, 13 August 2026._
