Annual inflation rose to 4.0 percent in July from 3.7 percent, according to UBOS. Pump prices remain the figure households feel first: petrol around Shs 6,538 and diesel around Shs 6,603. Four percent is not a crisis print, but it is the wrong direction for food and transport in the same month. In Kabale, diesel shows up in the cost of a sack of potatoes moving to Kampala and in the fare home at the end of term. Traders at the main market told Joy FM they are not waiting for the next UBOS chart. They are already adding a little to the retail heap. _Based on UBOS figures published in early August 2026._
